La Cabushe Hideaway

Walk through our no-dig, raised bed, permaculture fruit and veg garden to your own private stairway down to La Cabushe. The spacious five-meter diameter bedroom is beautifully furnished – a comfy double bed all atop a polished pine floor. Stroll across your own private sunbathing terrace to the summer kitchen with its attached veranda where you can relax with a good book or watch the sun go down.

The design of La Cabushe kitchen and veranda was inspired by the architecture of the Soloman Islands where Matt grew up. Sitting with a glass of local wine and watching the wind flurries through the cereal crops, it is very easy to imagine you are looking out to sea, (or maybe that depends on how many glasses of wine you’ve had). With wide open views of rolling countryside, amazing sunsets and clear starry nights it is really a magnificent place to chillax and let the hours drift by, but keep an eye open for some of the wildlife –  there are deer, rabbits and wild boar to spot, chirping frogs to listen to and if you fancy doing a bit of bird watching we’ve left binoculars and a bird identification book in the kitchen so that you can identify what you’ve seen – later in the summer you can witness the amazing sight of kestrals teaching their fledglings to hunt right in front of you, in the valley below La Cabushe.

Inside the yurt is roomy and beautifully furnished with a double bed and a living space as well

This beautifully handmade yurt was built in 2014 (we replace the yurts every four years), under the guidance of Matt by a lovely couple of volunteers from Wiltshire. The combination of peeled white willow poles and the dark oak is a wood lovers dream and a wonderful thing to wake up to in the morning, along with the distant muffled sounds of the chickens scratching and our two pigs grunting and frollocking in their wallowing pool up the hill.

The yurt is furnished entirely using re and upcycled pieces, either bought from vide greniers or brocantes or donated by people in the local area (we have become known for our ability to give things a new lease of life!). Gorgeous bed linen, rugs, solar lighting and bedside lanterns, along with plenty of books and games, maps and local information are all supplied so that you can really make the most of your stay.

Timber-framed outdoor kitchen with veranda

We cut the timber used to build this kitchen from a friends nearby chestnut coppice, the forks in the trunks naturally form the main pillars that hold up the roof. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you could possibly need so that you can make the most of the incredible local food available in this area, not least from the kitchen garden 20m away. Enjoy dining on the veranda and then take an afternoon snooze in one of the loungers on the adjacent terrrace.

Private Solar Bathroom and Separate Composting Loo

The bathroom with solar shower is located just behind the kitchen. The hot water system is simple but effective with the sun heating up your water. When the sun is not out you can use the shared bathroom located in the kitchen garden – it features a high tech solar system with electric back up, so providing non stop hot water for everyone, day or night, come rain or shine.
