The Bodgers’ Hideaway

Stroll down the track and say hello to our small flock of Jacob sheep on your way to the Bodgers’. As you descend into the wood, soak in the natural ambiance and take a moment to enjoy the sounds of rustling leaves and birdsong. The Bodgers’ Hideaway has been designed for people who love trees! Situated on the edge of our small copse, this retreat consists of a semi-underground roundhouse kitchen, BBQ and dining terrace, and then another twelve steps take you to your yurt. This space is the essence of tranquility, on those intensely hot and sunny days it’s nice to laze on one of the hammocks under the dappled shade of oaks, walnuts, acacia, laburnum, hazel and ash trees but don’t worry, if you are a sun-lover there are plenty of places to go to top up your tan!

The roundhouse has been constructed with maximum regard for the environment, using wood coppiced from a neighbours chestnut forest, straw bales collected from a field 100m away, recycled car tyres as the foundations and willow from our own plantation.
In 2015 we added a deck so that you could live in the woods but still enjoy the amazing views – it’s situated fifteen metres below the yurt on the edge of the copse – its a beautiful, secluded spot perfect for relaxing in a lounger with a good book and perfectly positioned for experiencing the stunning sunsets with a glass of good wine.

Inside the yurt is welcoming and cosy

This beautiful yurt was hand-crafted by a delightful couple of volunteers from Cornwall under Matts guidance. It is easy to just sit and look at the walls and marvel at the images of the leaves and branches swaying in the breeze projected onto the canvas in the sunlight. This is a four and a half meter diameter yurt, so whilst it is still spacious, it has a cozy feel, accentuated by being under a canopy of trees. It is furnished with one comfy double bed, but we have the possibility of adding an additional single bed (and cot) if required.

Rustic furniture has been found and lovingly restored and revamped to provide a unique bedroom combined with a living space, to which we have added gorgeous bed linen, rugs, solar fairy lights, bedside lanterns and plenty of books and games, as well as local information and maps to help you explore the best of this lovely area.

Roundhouse Kitchen

Inspired by reading Tony Wrench’s book in the early noughties, building a roundhouse had been on Matts bucket list ever since! The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you could possibly need so that you can make the most of the incredible local food available in this area, including our own kitchen garden. Dining and barbequing on the sun-dappled terrace adjacent to the roundhouse is a real pleasure.

Private Solar Shower and Separate Composting Loo

Your private solare shower is located just off to the side of the roundhouse, with a nearby handbasin so you can scrub up whilst enjoying the view through the woods! There is also an alternative bathroom located up in the permaculture garden which has a large solar powered shower with electric back up so you are guaranteed to get a hot shower whatever the time or the weather.
